Hike On A Snowy Appalachian Trail

https://youtu.be/_Ob52UqDeLI

Yesterday, we set out in search of snow. And we found plenty of it, at Carvers Gap at Roan Mountain. We trudged 5 miles up the Appalachian Trail to Roan Mountain’s Rock Gardens, out to a ledge overlooking the valley and back to the Boldt, where we overnighted on a quiet road (only two vehicles passed the whole night).

Temps dropped to 41F, warm for February, especially at that elevation, but the Boldt stayed toasty warm. It was an exhilarating day, good for the body and the soul. To be up there, among the Red Spruce and Fraser Firs, was restorative. Just a few steps off the highway, and we entered a winter wonderland.
